Online Books & Upton Sinclair

A friend of mine on Facebook called my attention to a site called "Read Print" that contains over 8000 free books that you can enjoy in full. I browsed the various categories in the site's library and came across a book by Upton Sinclair that I found of interest. It is titled "The Profits of Religion" and expresses Mr. Sinclair's views of organized religion and the effect that money has upon it. Take a dive into Read Print and see if there is anything you might like to absorb. - One side note. Since the information was digital text, I had my Apple computer read it to me.

A Look At The Heart Of Fox News

While doing my nightly review of Ain't-It-Cool News, I came across a story about a documentary called "OutFoxed", which takes a look at Rupert Murdock and his sub-company, the Fox News Channel. Below are the eight YouTube segments of that video. I think you will find this information quite revealing.

Is Obama the Anti-Christ?

Here's a clip from the Rachel Maddow show citing a poll taken of New Jersey conservatives. The second half of the segment discusses that results that show 1 in 3 Jersey conservatives either think President Obama "is" or "might be" the Anti-Christ. Contains an interview with Frank Schaeffer, author of "Crazy For God" which is highly critical of the "evangelical subculture".

Political Fact Check - Obama Addressing Students

Back in September 2009, there was a lot of fuss about a televised address President Obama was going to make to school children around the nation. Some critical sources said that this was the first time any US President had made such an address. To set the record straight, other presidents have also done this, with the acceptance of the citizenry for the most part. From PolitiFact.

World Demographics Are Changing

There has been a lot of talk from time to time about how cultures of the future will have a different mix of ethnic groups from those of today. In the USA it is easy to see a steady increase in the number of hispanic citizens. Sometime in the not too distant future, hispanic individuals will account for the majority of people in American. This movie, however, focuses on the rise in numbers of Islamic people across the world. That scares some people, especially those who are currently in the majority today.

I've discussed this video with several friends and they seem to think the numbers sited are questionable, along with the conclusions offered. Also, the mythbusting website "Snopes" rates this video as "Mostly False". The important thing to take away from this motivational video is not so much the information, but more the perspective of the people who made it.

Daily Show Clip - Fox News: The New Liberals

This is a great segment from sly Jon Stewart at the Daily Show. August 19, 2009. Jon shows clips from Fox news criticizing Liberals for certain actions, then shows Fox personalities doing the exact same thing. Only only logical conclusion is that Fox News has now gone Liberal. Oh, the hypocrisy!

Chomsky - Manufacturing Consent - Final Chapter

Here is the final segment of Noam Chomsky's video "Manufacturing Consent". It talks about our social and political future and the choices we need to make. I very much agree with what is being said on the clip and suggest that you give it a serious viewing.

Very Conspiratorial Video - On Facebook

A friend of mine called my attention to this video about the United States' presence in Iraq. It very much comes across like a conspiracy theory, but like all good conspiracy theories, it makes a pretty convincing story. This one is very Chomsky-esque. Listen at your own risk.

How Most American's View Democrats And Republicans

A 2009 poll from the Gallop organization concerned with how the American public views the two major political parties. Graphs show data collected between 1993 and 2009, allowing one to see how views have changed over time. Aside from views about how extreme each party may or may not be, more Americans feel that the Democratic Party's views are closer to what they are looking for.

Big Vault Of Noam Chomsky's Thoughts

Noam Chomsky is one of the most quoted people on Earth, especially when it comes to international politics. Noam seems to be rather apolitical, taking no particular side with any group. He more or less is a historian and social commentator, with a unique and amazingly well-informed view. Be warned, though. His tales of governmental activity are pretty distressing and depressing. It's not the bright, shiny world the media hands us to see.

Familiar With The Warning Signs Of Fascism?

Here is an essay from The Project For The Old American Century pointing out the warning signs of Fascism. Writer Laurence Britt researched and analyzed the regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet and noted 14 characteristics they have in common. He then went on to see if any of these traits were present in modern American politics. A very interesting and eye-opening read.

William F. Buckley Debates Noam Chomsky

Talk about two radically different perspectives on politics! It's amazing, especially in this day and age, to watch two eloquent, highly-intellectual people discuss politics. Check out this discussion of US intervention in foreign countries from 1969 and see what you think.
